How many times have you withheld valuable information? I am not talking about FBI case files information. I am referring to information such as paying someone a compliment, praising your employees for a job well done, telling someone how you truly feel. By holding back you might have missed out on giving that one person a boost of much needed confidence. By giving kudos for a job well done to your team or team members, could motivate them in a positive way, Telling a friend how you feel about them might strengthen or save a friendship. I was blessed with the gift of gab so I really do not have an issue with holding back. I probably need to batten down the hatch on my often over flow of speaking at times. I have seen this in various settings when a person does not speak up. Speaking up can change the entire outcome of a situation. It could be good or bad depending on the situation but one thing for sure at least when you speak up unknowns are verified. I tell my team often that it's not what you say but how you say it that matters. I can deliver the same message as you can and it could be perceived in two different context. Take notice to how you say things. Your voice tone and body language play an important role in how the message is sent. Be straightforward with information. Do not allow fear to win over words. You don't know the positive impact you might have on someone if you speak up. Sometimes holding back can be self inflicting causing you to always wonder "what if" I had said something. Would things have turned out different? Could I have made a difference? Living with regret can be avoided. Don't be such a tight lip!
